What is Geocell?
Geocell is a three-dimensional, honeycomb-like structure made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE), polypropylene, or other polymeric alloys. It is used in geotechnical and environmental engineering applications to improve soil stabilization, erosion control, and load distribution. The cellular confinement system consists of interconnected cells that are expanded on-site and filled with soil, aggregate, concrete, or other fill materials, depending on the application requirements.
What are the Characteristics and Benefits of Geocell?
- Enhanced Load Support: Geocells spread loads over a wider area, reducing pressure on the soil below and increasing the load-bearing capacity of paved and unpaved surfaces.
- Erosion Control: Geocells are ideal for slopes, embankments, and waterway banks because they prevent soil erosion caused by water runoff and wind by confining fill materials.
- Soil Stabilization: They stop squishy soils from getting squashed and make the soil structure stronger and more stable.
- Vegetation Support: When you put dirt in these cells, they help plants grow on hills and slopes by keeping the dirt from washing away and helping it stay wet.
- Cost-Effective: It reduce the need for traditional construction materials like concrete and asphalt, which saves you money on your project.
- Environmental Sustainability: It use local fill materials and reduce the need for non-renewable resources, which is good for the environment.
- Versatility and Adaptability: Geocells can be used in a wide range of applications and terrains, from flat grounds to steep slopes.
What are the Application of GCL?
- Roadways and Pavements: Used to stabilize the subgrade and base layers, improving the lifespan and load-bearing capacity of roads.
- Slope Protection: Prevents soil erosion on slopes and embankments by confining soil and supporting vegetation growth.
- Channel Lining: Protects channels and waterways from erosion, controlling the flow of water and sediment.
- Retaining Walls: Geocells can be stacked to form flexible, permeable retaining walls for landscaping and erosion control.
- Load Support: Used under parking lots, driveways, and airport runways to evenly distribute loads and prevent soil compaction.
- Foundation Stabilization: Provides a stable base for foundations in construction projects, especially on weak soils.
Geocell
HDPE Geocell is a Geo Cell constructed of lightweight and flexible three dimensional, expandable perforated panels made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE) strips which are ultrasonically bonded together to form an extremely strong configuration. HDPE Geocell System can be filled with a wide range of material: aggregate, concrete, sand, soil, etc.
HDPE Geocell is engineered for soil stabilization applications, it’s used to help improve the performance of standard construction materials and erosion control treatments
